HOST:

Welcome to"Road to Resilience." I'm Ilana Nikravesh, and I'll be hosting this monthly podcast produced by the Mount Sinai Health System in New York City. It breaks down what it takes to be resilient when you're faced with life's greatest challenges, and it's a topic that can apply to everyone.

DR. CHARNEY:

We all face traumas in our life. Nobody goes unscathed.

HOST:

What you might not know is that you can actually train yourself to become a more resilient person. Anyone can learn how to respond to stress and grief in healthy ways. But the question is"how?"

DR. CHARNEY:

You can take the traumatic experience, learn from it, incorporate it into who you are, and ultimately become a stronger person.

HOST:

During the episodes, you'll hear from our experts, known across the world, as they detail the science behind building resilience along with their personal experiences overcoming adversity. In our first episode, Dr. Dennis Charney, the dean of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, shares his own journey after getting ambushed by a gunman, and how he applied simple steps to stay resilient during his road to recovery.
